Accident on Duffield Road Thursday 3rd May

Unfortunately another accident happened tonight. At 5.40 I traveled home and popped in to Darley Abbey to vote. When I came back out of Mile Ash lane I spotted a cyclist, lying on the floor with two people with him. He had been knocked off his bike and was clearly very shacken up. He was travelling towards Derby in the bus lane and a car had pulled across in front of him. I spoke with the driver of the car to ask what had happened. He said we was confused about the road layout and had pulled in to the middle lane and then realised it was in fact the oncoming traffic lane. He became confused, moved to get out of the way and pulled across in front of the cyclist. We have received countless comments about the Mile Ash Lane junction and have passed these comments on to the Council. Cars are inclined to cut across quickly here and must make sure they also look in the bus lane for traffic. The council have recognised the problems for cyclists on this road and have talked about implementing a cycle lane. However we are worried about the environmental impacts of this plan. I am pleased to say the cyclist Rob Suggitt was shaken, battered and bruised but okay.
